Daniel L. Cohen MD, FRCPCH, FAAP
Dr. Daniel L. Cohen is a Senior Partner in the federal healthcare consulting firm of Martin, Blanck & Ass. LLC. He was formerly Chief Medical Officer for Datix, an internationally prominent patient safety and clinical risk management software company headquartered in London, England. Prior to that he served as Chief Medical Officer and Executive Medical Director for the United States Department of Defense (DoD) TRICARE health plan, which provides or purchases healthcare services for over 9.5 million beneficiaries worldwide. As Director, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Cohen provided senior-level oversight for the DoD’s extensive patient safety, clinical quality assessment, population health and medical management programs.
Dr. Cohen is a Senior Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK), and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (USA). He is a frequent presenter at international quality and safety conferences and is author of Late Night Reflections on Patient Safety — Commentaries from the Front Line. Dr. Cohen retains adjunct faculty appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
She has published on numerous areas in patient safety, including co-authoring the books, “Achieving Safe and Reliable Healthcare” and “The Essential Guide for Patient Safety Officers.” She has also published on Executive WalkRounds, the use of rapid response teams and improving communication in intensive care units.
