Jeffrey Philip Brown, M.Ed

Jeff is an applied human factors practitioner who has collaborated with clinical and administrative professionals on organizational initiatives to improve risk mitigation and patient safety since 1999. In 2002 he was a co-recipient of a John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety Award for System Innovation from the Joint Commission and National Quality Forum. In addition to his work in patient safety, Jeff has supported risk mitigation efforts in a variety of high-risk domains, such as border security, defense, aviation, and electrical transmission. He holds an Adjunct Research Instructor appointment with Parks College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology at St. Louis University, Missouri.
Jeff has authored and co-authored articles, books, book chapters, and technical reports on patient safety and aviation safety topics. Most recently, he has co-authored A Sociotechnical Model for Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy (2013) and Chapter 10, Using Technology to Enhance Safety in the Essential Guide for Patient Safety Officers, 2nd Edition, The Joint Commission (2013). Prior to beginning his consulting practice in 1996, Jeff served as a faculty member and department chair for baccaluareate flight operations and aviation management programs. He earned his M.Ed. and B.S. degrees from the University of Maine.
