Barbara Spreadbury is a healthcare leader, overseeing initiatives in health care performance improvement, safety and reliability, strategic planning and large-scale project implementation.  Barbara serves as a High Reliability Expert for Safe & Reliable Healthcare.  

Barbara has previously served as an independent consultant.  Her engagements included leading high reliability services for a large statewide association, designing implementing care management and population health for a statewide accountable care organization, and coaching a variety of organizations in their use of the Malcolm Baldrige Excellence Framework.

Barbara served as the Group Vice President, Solutions, for the Children’s Hospital Association and its predecessor organization, Child Health Corporation of America. 

In that role, Barbara led a team of over 20 professionals responsible for improving performance across the Association’s 43 largest pediatric medical centers.  

Barbara also served as Vice President, Health Care Improvement for Baylor Health Care System, Dallas, as well as the Corporate Vice President, Quality Resource Center for SSM Health Care.   At SSM Health Care, Barbara directed the system’s pursuit of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, which resulted in the system being the first healthcare applicant in history to win the Baldrige Award.  Prior to joining SSM Health Care, Barbara held administrative and operational roles at two hospitals in the Chicago area.

Barbara holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Loyola University of Chicago, specialized in Quantitative Methods and Computer Systems, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management from the University of Illinois Chicago.  Barbara has presented nationally and internationally on performance improvement.
