A conversation with John Duce…

One of the many things that makes Safe & Reliable Healthcare so special is the people who work here. Although the company operates virtually, we have dynamic teams that work collaboratively to make healthcare safer for everyone. Check out a recent conversation with John Duce, one of our top engineers.

What do you do for Safe & Reliable?

I lead a team of engineers in developing state-of-the-art software that helps healthcare organizations. I firmly believe that the work we do as a company is improving the lives of healthcare workers and reducing patient harm–and this is especially relevant given all the challenges healthcare organizations are dealing with right now. My team operates in an agile environment, which is important because we need to solve problems quickly and be creative in our solutions.

What brought you to Safe & Reliable?

My plan coming out of high school was to become a doctor until I realized I couldn’t stand the sight of blood. That led me to finding a major that perfectly combined my interests in biology and computer science. After completing my degree in Bioinformatics at Brigham Young University, I began working for a start-up company, where I helped create a web application that helped people understand their DNA better. I came to Safe & Reliable Healthcare five years ago because I was impressed by how well the company understood the needs of patients and care teams. S&R was working on a product to address those needs in a way that no one else was.

I was also intrigued by the depth and breadth of knowledge of the people who work here. We have programmers, nurses, doctors, healthcare leaders, educators, and creative people who share a passion for solving the problems that healthcare organizations face. We support and appreciate each other, which makes it a great place to work and grow.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I’ve always loved the outdoors. Living in Utah gives me the opportunity to spend time in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Because Safe & Reliable is fully remote, my colleagues live all over, and it’s fun to see how they spend their free time. When I’m not outdoors, you can usually find me hanging out with my wife and kids, playing games, putting puzzles together and watching movies.

Intrigued by what you read? John is looking for people for his team who are passionate about technology and want to make a difference with their work. We’re hiring
